Air Cooler Error Codes & Troubleshooting Guide

industrial air cooler control panel displaying E7 error code

Industrial evaporative air coolers are widely used in factories, warehouses and commercial buildings to improve ventilation and reduce heat.

However, like any mechanical equipment, air coolers may sometimes display error codes or operational problems.

Understanding these error codes helps identify whether the issue can be solved through basic troubleshooting or requires professional repair.

Common Air Cooler Error Codes

Modern industrial air coolers use a control panel to monitor electrical faults, voltage abnormalities and motor overload conditions.

The following are common error codes found in many fixed-type evaporative air coolers.

E1 – Over Current

Possible causes:

  • Motor overheating
    • Electrical wiring fault
    • Motor earth wire disconnected

E2 – Over Voltage

Possible causes:

  • Incoming power supply voltage too high
    • Electrical wiring fault

E3 – Under Voltage

Possible causes:

  • Insufficient electrical supply
    • Circuit wiring problem

E4 – Current Fault

Possible causes:

  • Electrical circuit fault
    • Wiring connection problem

F6 – Communication Failure

Possible causes:

  • Communication cable fault
    • Loose communication cable connection
    • Control panel malfunction

E7 – Motor Overload

Possible causes:

  • Fan motor drawing excessive current

E8 – 15V Voltage Fault

Possible causes:

  • Internal PCB controller fault

Touch Screen Air Cooler Error Codes

Some newer evaporative air cooler systems use touch screen control panels.

Common codes include:

Meaning

01

Over current

02

Communication failure

03

Drainage failure

04

Water pump failure

05

Under voltage

06

Over voltage

These codes help technicians quickly identify faults within the cooling system.

Air Cooler Not Cooling

One of the most common complaints is when the air cooler runs but does not produce cooling air.

Possible causes include:

Cooling Mode Not Activated

If the system is running in VENT mode, it will only provide ventilation without cooling.

Switch the unit to Cooling Mode.

Water Pump Fault

If the water pump fails, water will not circulate through the cooling pads.

Possible causes include:

  • Water pump failure
    • Dirty cooling pads

If the issue persists, it may require professional air cooler repair service in Malaysia.

Low Water Level

Possible causes:

• Faulty water level sensor
• Float valve malfunction

Water Leaking From Air Cooler

Water leakage can occur under different conditions.

Leakage During Rain

Possible causes:

  • Broken ducting
    • Air cooler top cover damaged
    • Sealant deterioration

Leakage During Cooling Mode

Possible causes:

  • Internal water piping burst
    • Cooling pad damaged

Continuous Leakage

Possible causes:

  • Float valve fault
    • Drain valve jammed

No Air Blowing From Air Cooler

If the air cooler is running but no airflow is coming out:

Possible causes:

  • Fan blade broken
    • Motor wiring fault
    • PCB board malfunction

Loud Noise or Strong Vibration

Possible causes include:

  • Fan motor bearing wear
    • Unbalanced fan blade
    • Installation alignment issue

When Should You Call a Technician?

If your air cooler repeatedly shows error codes, leaks water or produces abnormal noise, the issue may involve electrical components or mechanical faults.

In such cases it is recommended to contact a professional air cooler maintenance and repair service.

Experienced technicians can inspect the system and prevent further damage.

E1 usually indicates an over-current condition caused by motor overheating, wiring faults or a disconnected motor earth wire.

An air cooler may stop cooling because the water pump is faulty, cooling pads are dirty, water level is too low or the system is running in vent mode.

Water leakage can be caused by broken ducting, damaged cooling pads, burst internal piping, float valve faults or drain valve malfunction.

Noise and vibration may be caused by worn fan motor bearings, damaged fan blades or installation alignment problems.

You should contact a technician if the air cooler repeatedly shows error codes, cannot switch on, leaks water, produces strong vibration or fails to cool properly.
