Case Study: Multi-Level Exhaust Ventilation Upgrade for Metal Fabrication Factory

Rooftop exhaust fans installed on a metal fabrication factory roof for high-level hot air extraction.

The Challenge: Hot Air Accumulation in a High-Roof Metal Fabrication Factory

Metal fabrication factories often generate heat from machinery, welding, cutting, fabrication processes, and daily production activities. In this project, the factory had a high-roof structure with a mezzanine floor, which created different ventilation requirements between the lower production area and the upper level.

Hot air naturally rises and can accumulate near the roof area, especially around mezzanine spaces and high-level working zones. At the same time, the ground floor also required direct air extraction to help remove warm and stagnant indoor air from the lower section of the factory.

The client required a practical exhaust ventilation setup that could support air removal from both the ground floor and mezzanine level.

The Solution: Wall-Mounted Exhaust Fans and Rooftop Exhaust Fans

CrystalAir supplied and installed a combination of box type exhaust fans and rooftop exhaust fans for this metal fabrication factory.

For the ground floor, 2 units of CrystalAir box type exhaust fans were installed on the zinc wall. These fans were positioned to extract indoor air directly from the lower factory area through the side wall.

For the mezzanine floor and high-roof area, 6 units of rooftop exhaust fans were installed on the factory roof. This arrangement helps extract hot air that rises and accumulates at the upper part of the building.

By using both wall-mounted and rooftop industrial exhaust fans system, the system provides a multi-level exhaust ventilation approach suitable for the factory’s building layout.

Key Design Features of this Project:

  • Ground Floor Air Extraction: 2 units of CrystalAir box type exhaust fans were installed on the zinc wall to support direct side-wall air extraction from the lower factory area.

  • High-Level Hot Air Removal: 6 units of rooftop exhaust fans were installed to extract accumulated hot air from the mezzanine and upper roof area.

  • Multi-Level Ventilation Approach: The system was arranged to support both lower-level and upper-level air removal instead of relying on only one exhaust point.

  • Practical Factory Application: The setup is suitable for a metal fabrication environment where heat, machinery operation, and limited airflow can create hot and stuffy working conditions.

The Result: Completed Exhaust Ventilation Setup for Ground Floor and Mezzanine Area

CrystalAir completed the installation of 2 units of box type exhaust fans for the ground floor and 6 units of rooftop exhaust fans for the mezzanine and high-roof area.

Although no before-and-after temperature or airflow readings were recorded for this project, the installation was arranged based on the factory layout and ventilation requirement. The wall-mounted exhaust fans support lower-level air extraction, while the rooftop exhaust fans help remove hot air from the upper section of the building.

This combination provides a practical exhaust ventilation setup for a high-roof metal fabrication factory with both ground floor and mezzanine-level ventilation needs.

Need a Factory Exhaust Ventilation System?

Every factory has a different layout, roof height, production process, and airflow condition. A suitable exhaust system should be planned based on where heat and stagnant air accumulate inside the building.

CrystalAir can help evaluate your factory and propose a suitable exhaust ventilation solution, including wall-mounted exhaust fans, rooftop exhaust fans, ducted exhaust systems, and other industrial ventilation setups.
